Diesel fuel injection at this moment in time continues
to be at the fore front of the technology explosion.
When the first diesel engines rolled from a production line the
only demands made of them was their ability to run on any rubbish
you could get in the tank (cooking fat, engine oil) but the fact
that presented itself remained their ability to travel for longer
on less fuel. Now diesel vehicle owners demand more from their engines
they want POWER, PERFORMANCE whilst still retaining colossal economy
and less emissions, the once smoky dirty diesel now becomes the
quiet, clean, economic miracle.
- SINGLE
STAGE: original old technology where rotary distribution
pump delivers fuel to injectors one at a time using relatively
low pressures(120-130 bar)still fuel efficient but noisy
and smoky
-
TWO STAGE: The first stage of injection remains the same
but it has been joined by a higher pressure second stage
(300-400 bar) this allows more power and a more efficient
burn.
-
COMMON RAIL: electronically controlled injectors with
high pressure fuel pumps generating massive pressures(1200-1500
bar)a control system opens and shuts injectors sequentially
whilst constantly variable fuel pressure allows adjustments
in fuel quantites. The massively high pressures lends itself
to fantastic fuel economy, much quieter engines and a
cleaner burn means a large increase in engine torque.
-
UNIT INJECTOR SYSTEMS: Similar to common rail in respect
of high pressures, efficiency and being at the very front
of technology the main difference being in the way it
creates its high pressure, the injectors are supplied
by a common low pressure fuel supply which after entering
the injector becomes compressed within the injector to
produce high pressure. Unit injector systems and common
rail systems are the result of the ever changing face
of diesel technology.

JUST
DIESELS as an extenuation of our diagnostic program decided
the only way to give a complete service would to move comprehensively
into the fuel injection market we did this the only way we know
how by embracing technology and to become the only garage in the
north of England to test and repair common rail injectors.
“Don’t guess, just test”
